Down the Garden Path
Old chimney pots once stood so proud
on Victorian roof high up in clouds,
Now stand along a garden wall
to help the lavender stand so tall.
Old pavement bricks in shades of blue
show black soiled lines to guide you through,
Various pots of various shapes
below big bunches of ripening grapes.
Rambling Rector clings to the wall
tied to wires in case it should fall
yellow stamens a beautiful sight
Its creamy flowers fading to white
Manicured borders holding lots
of cottage flowers, some in pots,
Aquilegias appear in cracks
along the paths and garden tracks.
Hardy Geraniums edge the grass
in front of Pinks, all sown en-masse
clove scented short lived border plants
beside the Phlox grown to enchant.
While gorgeous spires of Lupins grow
pea-like flowers planted for show,
As bees buzz round a plant so pretty
the Foxglove Serendipity
A gravel path will take you past
the vegetable plot, so wide, so vast,
With cabbages and cauli's set in rows
alongside the kale and radichios.
Then a mass of old fruit trees
with blossoms blowing in light breeze
in time will turn to apples and pears
preserved on dark cold cellar stairs.
Hope you enjoyed my little tour
please, do call in if ever you’re
at a loose end with nought to do
I’ll be right here to welcome you.
